Moving personal effects to the UAE

Your household goods and personal effects are usually allowed duty free entry, provided that they have been owned and used prior to importation. Before your shipment is sent, all necessary documentation must be submitted and you must be in the country in order to successfully complete all customs clearance procedures.

All books, CDs, videos, DVDs and magazines are subject to physical inspection and need to be packed in separate cartons and marked clearly. They will be subject to review and censorship by the UAE Ministry of Information. Your items will be released if nothing abnormal is found. This procedure will take from 10 to 15 days.

UAE removals transit times

Groupage or shared load consignments usually take eight to 12 weeks, door to door. This can, of course, vary depending on volumes being shipped, customs or immigration delays and weather conditions. Sole use containers usually take five to six weeks door to door.

In general it is in your interest not to import the following items:

  • Firearms & ammunition (real or ornamental)
  • Swords, daggers, spears, etc.
  • Military uniforms and equipment
  • Inflammable goods & substances
  • Plants & plant material
  • Poppy seeds and flowers, leaves, etc.
  • Foodstuffs, perishable or otherwise
  • Narcotics and dangerous goods
  • Offensive materials
  • Tobacco and alcohol
  • Statues and figures with a religious undertone
  • Carvings and statues of humans - especially nude or pornographic
  • Religious books other than Islamic
  • Controversial political literature and materials contrary to an Islamic country's principles

How are our appointments carried out

In the current times you might prefer that we don't visit your house in person to carry out a survey. This is fully understandable and we can just as easily undertake the survey by video call, using whatever method you're comfortable with, usually FaceTime or WhatsApp.

Think there are a few things pre-move day that would help.

  • A general email to say what to expect, perhaps a video that shows what will happen. Moving house is stressful enough and this would’ve helped take the edge off.
  • A text message to confirm what time the team is arriving, potentially with the team member names included - we feel this would be a nice personalised touch.

BUT - on the actual day the team were brilliant and should be praised for their efforts.

Kim, Matthew, and Darren were delightful. They were efficient, friendly, and considerate. Kim went above and beyond to make sure that all of our essentials (keys, dog food, phones) were set aside. When unpacking, we noticed how carefully wrapped the items were. Everyone was very patient with our dog who was keen to get in their way.
