Customs Clearance - Generally it takes 10 to 15 days for customs clearance and delivery. This time can be affected by government policy, inspection of goods, etc.
Packing & Delivery - Our highly trained removal men can pack and export wrap your household goods to ensure that they are transported safely and in compliance with Australian import rules. If you choose a full door to door service to Australia, Britannia Goodwins will arrange for the delivery of your household goods to your new home.
Prohibitions and Restrictions
In general it is in your interest not to import the following items:
- Firearms & ammunition
- Inflammable goods & substances
- Plants & plant material
- Foodstuffs, perishables or otherwise, particularly opened packages which can harbour pests
- Narcotics and dangerous goods
- Offensive materials
- Alcohol & Tobacco
Keep in mind that all alcoholic beverages will be subject to customs duty and Goods and Service Tax (GST). Beer, wine, and spirits all attract extremely high levels of duty and GST.
Transit times for removals to Australia
Groupage or shared load consignments usually arrive nine to 14 weeks door-to-door. Keep in mind, though, that this can vary depending on volume being shipped, customs or immigration delays and weather conditions. Sole use containers usually take six to eight weeks port-to-port, and there's normally a weekly service to all major ports. Onward delivery to your new home will typically add an extra two weeks or so.
Moving personal effects to Australia
Duty free entry of household goods is usually granted if the goods have been owned for at least 12 months. When moving household items to Austalia an inventory is required, and Britannia Goodwins will provide you with the correct customs forms that must be completed before your household goods leave the UK.
All household and personal effects entering Australia are subject to a physical examination by the Australian authorities. to help ensure that no pests or disease are brought into the country.
Moving cats and dogs to Australia
Cats and dogs may only be imported under strict conditions designed to manage biosecurity risks. They are subject to quarantine. The preparation of your pet to move to Australia is lengthy, you'll need to start well in advance. They also offer a step-by-step guide for importing dogs and cats from the United Kingdom to Australia.
To ease the stress of taking your pets with you to Australia, we can recommend a specialised shipper of animals to assist you in sending your family pets to Australia.
